A student of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) was shot and killed on Tuesday in what is believed to be a cult-related attack near the institution’s back gate, shortly after completing his exams.
Eyewitnesses say the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was approached by a group of young men shortly before he was shot twice at close range by the attackers before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim to bleed out in broad daylight.

CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the attack in a statement and stated that seven suspects had been arrested in connection with the killing.
According to him, the police received a distress call at about 3 p.m. from the Sabo Division, which indicated that a suspected cultist had been shot by a group of rival cult members.
Officers who responded to the scene discovered the victim’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood with visible bullet wounds, as four rounds of live ammunition and charms were recovered from the victim’s pockets, suggesting that he was involved in cult activities. His body was subsequently taken to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Hundeyin emphasised that the police were working swiftly to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder. Expressing concerns about the recent spate of violence linked to cult groups in Lagos, he urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing information to aid in the crackdown on criminal syndicates.
As the investigation into these violent acts continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The police have vowed to continue their crackdown on cultism, while working to reassure the public that they are committed to ensuring the safety of all Lagosians.
