The importance of a good night’s sleep should never be undermined nor is its power underestimated. Yet, so many people still make the mistake of not getting a full eight hours of Zs. The damage it does to your body is often silent, that will slowly surface and show its ugly head thirty years from now. The truth is that being sleep deprived can show its unhealthy consequences the very next day, in public, at the workplace or worse, in front of your employer.
Before getting to the crucial part of the argument, let’s address that the least damage sleep deprivation can do is make you a tired zombie at work. As most people know from experience, feeling tired or lethargic will result in a fall in your work speed. Not only will you work slowly, but the lack of sleep will begin to mess with your emotions, making you bitter in the morning like a freshly brewed cup of Joe. What’s worse is that a lack of sleep can make you susceptible to sickness because of a weakened immune system.
Let’s get back on track and discuss the potential of sleep deprivation to completely derail your thoughts and emotions. You may begin to feel overly pessimistic and rebellious, or perhaps too positive, neither of which make a healthy recipe for work attitude. A large number of people who don’t catch up on sleep suffer from uncontrollable mood swings and feel irritable at work. As a result, you’ll begin to over think and suffer from higher levels of stress and frustration.
The worst case scenario is that you will snap at your colleagues, but in case you’re leaning toward the other extreme, feeling overly positive, it will make you insensitive to potential risks. Managers and superior don’t have it easier, considering they have to make many decisions with the best judgment possible. That can’t really happen when they undermine risk, miscalculate and forget to account for various factors.
Working at a firm or corporation that requires you to use creative, innovative ideas, requires that you be awake and ready to take on new challenges. Coming into work with an hour short of a good night’s rest can mean having to put in more energy into smaller and less demanding assignments. Better sleeping habits won’t just make you more energetic, but you’ll also feel happier and work productively as well.
If your lack of sleep is due to a sleep disorder, it’s important that you practice relaxation therapies and implement sleep-friendly exercise into your lifestyle. This is because your mood and cognition can deeply influence the way you feel about many things, including your job. The consequence is that your mind refuses to concentrate, no matter how hard you try to make it so. If you’ve tried almost everything then try switching to a new bed as a last resort. An uncomfortable bed can become a big problem if it does more than cause a little discomfort. One option is to get rid of your old one and buying a new macy’s mattress that will give you luxurious comfort and help you sleep better.
