In line with its corporate social responsibility as regards investment in the education sector of its host Communities and States, Seplat Energy PLC in partnership with NEPL has graduated 342 teachers and chief inspectors of Education.
The graduation ceremony for the teachers and chief inspectors of Education for 2025 was held last week in Benin City, Edo State where the teachers were trained under the Seplat Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP).
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Chioma Afe, Director, External Affairs and Social Performance, Seplat Energy PLC, described teachers as the true pillars of quality education.
Afe said the graduated teachers were 327 while chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) were 15, adding that NNPC Seplat had trained 1,334 teachers in the host States.
She added that the programme was geared towards supporting and empowering teachers by enhancing their capabilities as well as to enrich their classroom experience for every student and unlocking their full potentials.
She said the energy giant’s STEP App is a game-changer, an innovative, one-stop platform for online learning that empowers both educators and learners.
Afe opined that with access to over 10,000 resources, teachers can continually develop their professional skills while enhancing their personal growth.
Paddy Iyamu, Edo State Commissioner for Education, while commending NEPL/SEPLAT Energy for their unwavering commitment to education, urged the awardees to continue being torch bearers of excellence in education sector.
Iyamu represented by Ero Ugiagbe, Director of Examinations in the ministry opined that the education summit and STEP award ceremony was a testament to the State and the organisation’s collaborative commitment to the advancement of education as well as the transformation of the workforce that drives from it.
Rose Ezewu, the Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, said over 600 teachers in the State had been trained since the inception of SEPLAT Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP) in 2020, including the 171 teachers benefitting from the 2025 programme.
Ezewu represented by Justina Shaka, Director of Schools, noted that the impact of the capacity building of teachers in the sector has been profound, transformative, and bridged in the knowledge gap in STEM education.
