The Senate on Wednesday commenced the screening of the newly appointed Service Chiefs.
The exercise began at exactly 12:40 p.m. after the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, moved a motion to allow visitors into the chamber.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the plenary, called the session to order at 12:46 p.m.
The Service Chiefs, who arrived at the National Assembly complex around 10 am, were accompanied by senior military officers.
President Bola Tinubu had, on Tuesday, written to the Senate seeking confirmation of the appointments.
In his letter, the President urged the upper chamber to give expeditious consideration to the nominees to ensure continuity and effective coordination of the nation’s security architecture.

Those nominated for confirmation include General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
