The Senate on Thursday was compelled to adjourn till Friday to mourn the late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, who until his death on Wednesday, represented Imo North Senatorial District.
The Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the deceased and prayed God to repose his soul.
The motion for the adjournment was moved by the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Yahayah Abdullahi.
Uwajumogu who was chairman, senate committee on employment, labour and productivity died on Wednesday. He reportedly slumped in his residence in Abuja.
The death of Uwajumogu came barely two weeks after Jafaru Iliyasu Auna, a House of Representatives member died in surprising circumstances.
The National Assembly was on Wednesday thrown into mourning as there was confusion when the news of the death of the Senator broke.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan expressed sadness over the death of the lawmaker and described it as very untimely.
Lawan in a statement by his special adviser on media, Ola Awoniyi, issued in Abuja on Wednesday, commiserate with the family of the deceased Senator and the government and people of Imo State. He described the death as a tragic loss.
On Thursday, a condolence register was opened in respect of the deceased at the National Assembly complex. Senators and Members of the House of Representatives took turns to sign it.
