The principal Federal Government Girls College, Jalingo, Ziporah Kendo, on Saturday advocated sponsorship of less privileged children willing to acquire education.
Just as she said the Northeast was lacking behind in the Students enrolment in the unity schools across the country.
Kendo disclosed this at the 17th graduation and prize giving day held at the school premises in Jalingo the Taraba State capital.
The principal explained that none governmental organizations, civil society groups and well meaning individuals can take the bull by the horn by selecting best students from Primary schools for sponsorship adding that, by so doing Northeast will compete favourably with other zones in students enrolment.
While appreciating the Federal Ministry of Education for their unflinching support in various aspects including, renovation of staff quarters, fencing of the Hadeja and Taraba hostels, re-enforcement of the college perimeter fence among others. She however appealed for the construction of water reticulation in the staff quarters and other dilapidated structures in the institution.
“Northeast is lacking behind in students enrolment. I am appealing to well meaning individuals civil society and NGO’s to assist children of the less privilege, by this Northeast zone will compete favourably with other zones in students’ enrolment.
“I want to appreciate the Federal ministry of education for their unflinching support. Just like Oliver Twist, “we want more”. The school is appealing for the construction of Additional water reservoirs, dilapidated classrooms among others”.
