Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanw-Olu says his administration will launch investigation into the attack on the #ENDSARS protesters in Lagos with a view to fishing out the culprits.
Sanwo-Olu via his verified twitter handle @jidesanwoolu on Thursday, strongly condemned the attack on the #ENDSARS protesters.
“I strongly condemn the attack of peaceful protesters by armed and unscrupulous elements trying to cause chaos in Alausa today.
My government will never tolerate the attack of protesters. Security agents will immediately protect peaceful protesters from miscreants.
“I have received reports involving a bus in our state bus service. Our buses will never be involved in such activities and I have instructed the state team to get to the root of it.
I will address our residents live today on developments.
I understand the atmosphere of distrust in which things are happening and how rapidly the situation has escalated, but I need to let every Lagosian understand that our government believes firmly in democratic ideals and will continue to act in accordance with our belief,” said @jidesanwoolu.
For the second day running armed thugs on Thursday broke into the rank of the #EndSARS protesters at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, wielding dangerous weapons.
The thugs by about 8:00am were seen moving around wildly with cutlasses and knives and chasing after the EndSARS protesters who scampered in different directions for safety.
One of the protesters who gave his name as Temitope lamented that the police failed to give them protection, which provide the leeway for the armed hoodlums to attack them.
The EndSARS protesters hit the streets as early as 7am, in Lagos, and walked the way to gather at Lagos State House of Assembly, with some of them spreading to the Alausa end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where their activities disrupted vehicular movement on the expressway. The #ENDSARS protests entered its 9th day in major cities across the country on Thursday.
The armed in video trending online were seen jumping out from a Lagos State government branded BRT bus with dangerous weapons with which they attacked the protesters.
Although some of the demands of the protesters have been met by the government, including the disbandment of SARS, the protesters are insisting officers who shot and killed protesters be fished out and brought to justice through prosecution.
One of the leading voices for the #ENDSARS protesters, Aisha Yusufu while speaking on “Your View”, a TVC morning programme on Thursday, said “some of the arrested protesters are still being held”.
She also demanded the immediate prosecution of the killer-SARS officers.
