The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged Federal Government to focus more on providing adequate security for students across the insurgency prone North-East region of Nigeria.
The Lower Chamber also resolved to invite all the Service Chiefs to an executive session on the nation’s security situation.
The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Goni Lawan (APC-Yobe).
The motion came few days after the Nigerian authorities confirmed the kidnap of 110 students of Government Girls Technical College in Dapchi area of Yobe state.
While leading the debate, Lawan expressed displeasure over indiscriminate abduction of unsuspecting Students and the attendant suffering being subjected to by their abductors.
Other lawmakers who spoke in favour of the motion, namely: Sadiq Ibrahim (APC-Adamawa); Garba Tchede (APC-Taraba); Nnena Elendu-Ukeje (PDP-Abia) and Abdul Sani (APC-Bauchi) tasked the Federal Government to direct relevant security agencies toward securing immediate release of the schoolgirls.
The House also expressed its sympathy to parents of the abducted girls as well as the people and government of Yobe state.
To this end, the House resolved that a committee should be set up by Speaker Yakubu Dogara to visit Dapchi on assessment mission and report its findings for further legislative action.
