Real Madrid are reportedly considering a summer move for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté.
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the Spanish giants, who recently secured Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer, have long admired the 26-year-old centre-back and are prepared to test Liverpool’s resolve, especially with just one year left on his current contract.
Konaté has been a key figure at Anfield since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021, making 132 appearances and forming a solid partnership with Virgil van Dijk. However, stalled contract talks have cast doubt over his long-term future at the club.
Liverpool are reportedly desperate to avoid a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold situation and are determined not to lose Konaté for free in 2026.
They have slapped a £40 million price tag on the France international, but Madrid are reportedly considering a player-plus-cash deal to reduce the cost.
Spanish outlet Fichajes claims Real are considering offering €10 million plus Brahim Díaz’s release clause to tempt the Reds into selling this summer.
Konaté’s strength, tactical intelligence, and big-game experience make him a prime target for the La Liga champions, who are known for snapping up top talent on free transfers.
Although Liverpool are reluctant to let him go, Madrid are said to be willing to wait until January to negotiate a pre-contract agreement if an immediate deal fails.
With time ticking, the situation presents a major concern for Liverpool as they risk losing another top asset without compensation.
