…Tells Atiku, Obi not to be distracted by those afraid of coalition
The leaders of the opposition African Democracy Congress (ADC) in Lagos State have condemned the conduct of the July 12 council election in the state, saying that the election was unconstitutional and held in violation of the Supreme Court ruling.
The ADC urge well- meaning Nigerians to stand up and fight for the country, rejecting attempts to truncate hard-earned democracy by few individuals
The party stated this in a statement to the media on Saturday signed by influential leaders of the ADC in Lagos, including; Ramon Owokoniran, Sabiu Okanlawon, Onita Coker, Kayode Jacobs Jawando, Kehinde Oshinowo, Dapo Sarumi among several others.

The statement further berated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for conniving with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to validate the election.
“That we reject the local council elections held across Lagos state on Saturday July 12 , 2025, being illegal and unconstitutional; held in vagrant disrespect and shameful disobedience to the rulling of the supreme court in a case instituted by the APC itself.
“We urge all well meaning Nigerians to stand up and defend Nigeria’s democracy by joining to reject this barbaric violation and the attempt to dislocate our hard earned democracy
“We are ashamed that the PDP as opposition connived with APC to validate the election, by participating and refusing to see anything wrong in this awful act of illegitimacy,” the ADC said.
The ADC further said, “We are not surprised that Lagosians don’t go out to vote anymore because they didn’t trust that their votes would count.
The party commended Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and other political leaders for coming together to form the coalition to salvage the country.
The leaders further throw their support for the national chairman of the ADC, David Mark, the national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola) and coalition leader in Lagos, Rahman Owokoniran.
The ADC leaders pledged to work with the Lagos State chairman, George Ashiru, expressing appreciation for the national leadership for retaining him to continue in his position.
According to the statement, “We heartily commend H.E Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON , H.E Peter Obi and other coalition partners for coming together in an uncommon show of patriotism, selflessness and unquestionable commitment to the emancipation of our people and the building of a greater Nigeria.
“We urge them not to be distracted by antics of unsolicited divisive campaigners.
“We congratulate our National Chairman David Mark, National Secretary and Southwest leader Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and our own coalition leader in Lagos, Rahman Owokoniran and the entire coalition leadership.

“We also congratulate our State Chairman, Engineer George Ashiru for being retained as Lagos State Chairman by the National working committee.
“We unanimously pass vote of confidence on the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Rahman Owokoniran and George Ashiru.
“We trust that collectively, with other notable leaders still signing up, they will lead us to victory in Lagos State in particular and Nigeria in general.
“We resolved from this day forward that we shall change the face of Lagos politics. Opposition shall be vibrant, robust and very engaging.
We shall begin a massive reorientation of Lagosians to their voting rights and power.
“Era of the ruling Party in Lagos State using government machineries and state powers to intimidate voters, especially nonindegines is now completely over with the inauguration of ADC influencers”
