…As TOMVIC Group of Schools holds inter-house sports
The Proprietress of TOMVIC Group of Schools, Ilasa, Lagos, Funmilayo Modupe Oladipo, has emphasized the place of sports in quality education in Nigeria.
Speaking at the biennial inter-house sports competition of the school held recently at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) facility, in Surulere, Oladipo said that sport activities were critical parts of education as they help pupils acquire the skills that could help them in life.
“It is said that ‘All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy’. At TOMVIC we recognise and emphasise the three domains of learning- the cognitive domain, the affective domain and the psychomotor domain. It is for that reason that we take sports as a very critical part of school activities.
“Sports is part of the overall education of pupils. While we emphasize the academic development of our children, we also pay attention to their psychomotor development. Psychomotor learning is exhibited by the development of physical skills including movement, coordination and strength. So, at TOMVIC Group of Schools, we pay attention to the overall development of our children,” Oladipo said.
She also used the opportunity to urge parents to always take special interest in the education of their children.
She appreciated the parents, saying that over the years, some of the parents have become family friends beyond being parents of TOMVIC pupils.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank our parents who have been part of TOMVIC for decades now. Many of our parents here have had all their children pass through TOMVIC. If you did not have confidence in us, you would not have continued with us up till now. Some of you our parents are not just parents of TOMVIC pupils, but have become very close friends of our family with whom we have relationship beyond the walls of our school. We cannot thank you enough,” the proprietress said.
She also noted that many of the graduands and their parents have become good ambassadors of the school as they tell others of the ‘goodness of TOMVIC.”
According to her, “Over the years, our parents have become our ambassadors, who speak for us outside there, telling others about TOMVIC. Our graduands who have left many years ago are today also our good ambassadors. Our pupils too who are here are good ambassadors of the school through their disciplined disposition outside the four walls of the school. We thank you all, and pray that the Almighty God will continue to water the cordial relationship.”
Oladipo reminded the parents that, “Each child deserves quality education which is being offered by our school and we also want to emphasise our readiness at all times to partner our parents in the education of our children. It is very important that parents take special interest in the education of their children, and also in the type of school they send their children to. Our concern is the all-round development of our pupils.”
The Proprietor, Adeleke Oladipo, who was on ground to ensure that the activities were well-coordinated, attributed the success of the event to the cordial relationship that exists between the parents and the school.
“I thank the parents for the cooperation they have always shown, and the cordial relationship that has been existing between them and the school. They turned out in their good number and even participated in some of the activities. I am happy that they testified that they enjoyed the programme,” he said.
At the end of the events, Orange House came overall first; Yellow House came second; Green and Blue Houses tied at third position.
