The way people perceive you have a way of impacting on your success in whatever field of activity you find yourself and subsequently your income. That is why people who have focus in life try as much as possible to build credibility and self esteem about their self, and are perceived high among their friends and colleagues.
While this quality is not bought with cash, it can be earned through a period of time through exhibited behavior and disposition that single out the person from the rest people around.
Expert psychologist say out of nothing somebody can be made, by mere positioning of one self to that extent that he or she becomes a delight to people around his environment.
Benneth Opara, managing partner, B&B Consults said the major challenge facing many individuals, which also lead to their remaining poor despite opportunities in their hand is improper positioning.
Opara in his paper titled “Willingness to Grow” presented at a Seminar on Entrepreneurial Development organized for a set of business people in Alimosho said there is opportunity in every environment, which can be taped if one is perceived right by people in that environment.
He said the first step to positioning one self is for somebody to improve on his personality which would make him more relevant among others.
For self improvement, Opara emphasized the need for extra education through series of trainings, stating that that is where knowledge comes. “Knowledge is power and that is what distinguishes you from the rest people and make you the chosen one”.
As experts puts it self-enhancement is a type of motivation that works to make us feel good about ourselves and to maintain self-esteem. This motive becomes especially prominent in situations of threat, failure or blows to one’s self-esteem. Its enhancement involves a preference for positive over negative self-views, the experts said.
Another issue Opara raised in the lecture is about self confidence, stating that a number of people find it difficult to associate and as such die with the potentials in them. “A number of persons have hidden potentials in them which are not explored because the are either not social or have been weighed down psychologically”

In this sense, opara said it’s important that people go for psychological text or counseling to break certain traits that have not helped them to explode from their shells.
Again building status requires enhancing once outlook, though many be described as status symbol but, it helps enhance peoples perception about you. The expert say what is important about positioning is looking neat at all times, without really being extravagant or wanting to show off.
Opara suggest that acquiring physical asset though may be expensive is important in building status, as it quickly changes peoples perception and assessment about you.
Sola Fasuyi, an accountant said at the Seminar that acquiring physical asset earns respect for somebody and directly or indirectly opens door for credit facility.
“Don’t forget that people will believe you based on what they see, because that is where rating about you starts”
He said it is easier for somebody who has assets to be trusted with cash even if the asset is not standing as collateral than somebody who does not have, because he or she would be perceived as delicate.
