The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed as false reports circulating on social media alleging that a female police officer serving in the state was kidnapped and murdered.
In a statement issued on Saturday, by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Command’s Public Relations Officer, the police described the viral claims as “entirely untrue, misleading, and intended to cause panic among residents.”
According to the statement, the Command has no record of any missing or abducted female police officer in any of its divisions across Kwara State.
It also clarified that there is no police division called “Ogidi Division” in the state, contrary to what was claimed in the social media posts.
“This report is not only false but also misleading, with the intent to cause panic in the state.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard this information as there is no report of any female police officer missing or abducted in Kwara State,” the statement read.
The Command condemned the spread of such misinformation, noting that it undermines public confidence and causes unnecessary fear and distress.
It urged residents and media outlets to always verify information before sharing, particularly when it concerns security matters.
“The spread of misinformation is harmful to reputations and distressing to individuals and the people of Kwara State.
“We urge the public to refrain from circulating unverified or sensationalised content that could damage the image of the state,” it added.
