The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Plateau North Senatorial election, Eunice Sambo, has rejected the election result announced by the returning officer, Rotgak Gofwen, declaring Governor Jonah Jang the winner.
Sambo, who alleged that the APC agents did not sign the result which was disputed by APC agents at the Jos North collation centre, said: “I am going to go through all the legal process. This election is not about me, it is about Nigeria, it is about Plateau and it is about change.
“My constituents have stopped me asking me if I will let it go, I will not let the people down; unfortunately we have a similar result of 16 is greater than 19. My heart went out to people who were under the sun to exercise their franchise”.
Sambo, who polled a total of 221,274 votes against Jang’s 234,455, appealed to her teeming supporters to “remain calm and law abiding as the processes are not yet exhausted” as she encouraged them not to “renege in our resolve to protect the people’s man- date, campaigning for the remaining elections and not get distracted with the current happenings as the fight against impunity is not a one off thing but a process”.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has urged residents of the state to celebrate the victory of their party with decorum so as not to distort the fragile peace being enjoyed in the state. The command also warned that those celebrating should desist from the use of weapons and offensive language as the command has perfected security strategy to deal decisively with any mischief makers under any guise.
In a statement issued in Jos and signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abuh Emmanuel, members of the public were further encouraged to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in keeping the environment safe.
