The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended a governorship aspirant in Anambra State and Chairman, Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Ubah, for one month, for denigrating the leadership of the party.
Consequently, his case has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further disciplinary action.
The party said its action followed a query issued to him by the party for disparaging the party leadership over the conduct of the August 28 PDP primary election in Anambra State, which he failed to answer.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, told journalists at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday that the party also referred disciplinary action of Buruji Kashamu, the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, to the Disciplinary Committee, for anti-party activities.
The panel chaired by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, is expected to submit its report on the two party chieftains within the next two weeks.
Said Adeyeye: “The National Caretaker Committee took a decision to issue Adeleye him (Ubah) a query, asking him to retract the statement and to offer apology to those who have been disparaged by his remarks in the press.
“He chose not to answer the query. Of course the query was issued under the relevant sections of the Constitution of the PDP. But he decided not to answer the query; consequent upon which the National Caretaker Committee today decided to suspend him for a period of one month and to refer the matter the National Disciplinary Committee for further necessary action.
“Number two is Senator Buruji Kashamu’s case. He too was issued a query by the National Caretaker Committee some weeks ago. In his own case, he replied the query and denied some of the allegations made against him and basically saying that he is not responsible for some of those things for which he was accused of. Consequent upon which the National Caretaker Committee also took a decision to refer his case to the National Disciplinary Committee for further necessary action”.
Recall that Ubah had threatened to take the party to court for alleged irregularities in the primary, accusing Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Dave Umanyi (Ebonyi) and the National Caretaker Committee of rigging the exercise in favour of Oseloka Obaze.
