…As 24, out of 26 members defect to APC
The PDP has lost majority seats in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly as Udeme Otong, the speaker and 24, of the 26 lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during plenary, Tuesday, with the lawmakers citing internal crises within the PDP’s national leadership as the reason for their defection, a development that reduces the PDP to a minority in the House.

Following the shift, Sunday Johnny, a PDP member, who was the House Leader has lost his seat as Effiong Johnson of the APC is elected the Acting Leader.
Only two lawmakers— Sunday Johnny, Onna state Constituency and his Etinan counterpart, Uduak Ekpo-Ufot —remain with the PDP.
Their decision aligns with the interest of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is yet to react to the defections.
