The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, debunked fears that some people were planning to hold a parallel national convention on the 15 and 16 of November, in Abuja, same period the party would be holding its national convention in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, stated this while briefing Journalists in Abuja.
The PDP image maker, while reacting to questions on the alleged plans by some people to hold a parallel convention, dismissed the idea,, adding that ” we cannot be aware of a non-existing thing.”
Ologuagba said such lies in the imagination of the speculators.
“There is a process for conducting the national convention and we’re a party of process, what we do is that we follow the constitution of our party.
“Interestingly, the process has started, we have been in sync with our regulator, the INEC. INEC has been attending all our meetings”
The party also revealed that INEC did not only witness the party’s meetings and preparations for the November 15 and 16 Ibadan convention, but the electoral umpire has also approved all the processes
The party noted that the plan does not exist, adding that ” the local organizing committee is already in Ibadan working hard in preparation for the convention
“The venue committee, are working already ahead of time. Even before the inauguration of those sub-committees, they’re already working. And we’re methodical in the things we do.
“So it’s in the realm of conjecture probably. I think it would be in the realm of hallucination. And this train has moved on. It’s gone past the bus stop. We’re actually in Ibadan, as I speak.”
BusinessDay gathered that the party will be having its 102 national executive Committee NEC meeting on August 25th, with the reports on preparation for the convention on top of the agenda
Speaking on the just concluded bye-election, the party described it as a charede, as security operatives had arrested all members of the PDP, in the eve of the election in Kaduna as part of efforts to weaken the party members and stop them from coming out on the election day.
” Even in Taraba State. prominent members, including elected members of our party were arrested. We don’t call that an election. And we’ve heard about the arrogance of the APC. What they’ve done with those election is to test for 2007.
“But I have a bad news for APC. What happened in those bye-election, that they call election, will not happen in 2007. Why? The reason is that Nigerian people are wiser. They are hurting. What will be on the ballot in 2007 will be the hunger, will be the uncertainty, will be the insecurity that no money can purchase.
“Only last week, in my little village, the chairman of my party was kidnapped. Now it is so sad that when people get kidnapped in this country, you don’t even talk to police. They say, go and look for the money. It sounds like a new normal. That’s what will be on the ballot.
” Nigerian people will defeat them because they brought hunger to this country. For more than 10 years now, APC had been a point of pain to Nigeria.
“In the previous administration of President Buhari, what did they tell us? They told us they have intervention in agriculture, right? And they demonstrated by lying, by creating a wooden frame somewhere towards the airport, and they call it Pyramid of Rice. It turned out to be Pyramid of Lies”, he added.
Then contrast that with when PDP was in Government, Adesina was Agric Minister. People were using their phones to assess farming inputs, like fertilizer. Nigerians are going to compare the PDP, the golden years of prosperity, of democracy, of openness, and of capacity to allow people to pursue their own happiness.”
