Japanese electronics giant, Panasonic, a foremost air conditioner manufacturer has unveiled a new range of room air conditioners suited for tackling the African region’s key challenge of voltage fluctuation, air purification and energy saving.
According to the company, the development of the product manufactured in its Malaysia factory is an outcome of research in Nigeria and other African markets which indicated a need for a product that would withstand electricity fluctuation mostly experienced in the continent.
The air conditioners come with a built –AVS (Automatic Voltage Switcher) features that are not only designed to stand the fluctuating voltage but are more energy-efficient built-in and with increased air purification capabilities.
The system also come with a tropical compressor enabling powerful cooling even when the outside temperature is exceedingly high and a rust resistant blue fin condenser.

Unveiling the product in Nigerian market recently, Suraj, Rupani, promoter, Panaserv Nigeria Limited said the new Econavi room air conditioners with AVS feature not only enables the air conditioner to efficiently operate on a wider voltage range of 185V -260V but also prevents the compressor from being damaged by switching it off when there is a surge or drop in voltage.
“Even if the compressor is switched off, the airflow in the room is continued. The cooling operation automatically restarts when the voltage returns to inside of 185 V to 260 V. This feature also helps in saving space and maintaining the room décor as there is no need to install an external voltage tripper” Rupani said.
Also speaking at the unveiling event, Hiro Hiyama said the air purification systems called ‘nanoe-G’ embedded within these air conditioners capture and removes 99 percent of harmful micro-organisms from the air. “It is also capable to deactivate 99 percent micro-organisms trapped on the surfaces like curtains, sofas present in the room and the filter”
Hiyama said the existing range of air conditioners have been upgraded with the new Econavi Sensors which can sense human absence, human activity and sunlight conditions. “These sensors automatically adjusts cooling power to save energy efficiently with uninterrupted comfort and convenience”
