….commends peaceful conduct of Ibadan North by-election, frowns at voters’ apathy
The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for a thorough investigation into the killing of Ojo Peter ,a journalist who was gunned down by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan on August 18, 2025.
Ojo Peter, a former reporter with Parrot Extra and Daily Monitor, was shot in the back during a daylight robbery along the Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan.
The details of the deceased’s death which was made known to the Union after about three weeks,was saddened by the untimely death of the said reporter.
Sola Oladapo,the Acting Chairman of the Union, in a statement said the “Union is saddened by the news of Ojo Peter’s recent killing in Ibadan by suspected armed robbers. The attack occurred along Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan, Oyo State on August 18, 2025, around 2 p.m.
“Sources said Ojo Peter was robbed of his cross bag; despite pleading to the robbers that the bag contained no money, he was still shot in the back,” Oladapo said.
According to Oladapo, Ojo Peter was for several years a Crime Reporter who contributed to the safety of the society ,describing the incident as unfortunate,thereby urged the State Police Command to fish out the killers of the deceased journalist.
Oladapo, on behalf of the Union’s Chairman, Ademola Babalola who was on annual leave condoled the family of the deceased and urged them to take solace in the fact that the deceased left indelible marks in the sand of time.
It would be recalled that Ojo Peter’s brother, Peter Enahoro,early thus week expressed grief over the senseless killing, highlighting his brother left home healthy but was gunned down while trying to make ends meet.

The media community in Oyo State is mourning his loss, with calls for justice and accountability by the Oyo NUJ.
Meanwhile, the Oyo NUJ has commended the INEC and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the Ibadan North by-election, where Fola Oyekunle, the PDP candidate, emerged the winner.
While frowning on the voters’ apathy recorded during the election, the Union urged the electorate to be more alive to their civic responsibilities ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a communique issued at the end of the monthly congress of the Union held at the Press Centre, Iyaganku Quarters, Ibadan
called on eligible voters who are yet to register, alongside others who may wish to change their polling units and others whose cards were damaged but need replacement to do so before the expiration of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
The congress which deliberated extensively on several topical issues presided over by Ademola Babalola, the state chairman of the union congratulated the Olubadan of Ibadan-Designate, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja on his elevation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
It prayed for his successful reign while describing his nomination as a round peg in a round hole. The Union prayed for his successful reign as he sets to sit on the throne of his fore-fathers, bringing more developments to Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
The council equally lauded Oyo-state Government under the leadership of Seyi Makinde on infrastructural developments, stressing the need to extend the gesture of roads’ rehabilitation to the less cities across the state.
The Union regretted the fire incidences at Fresh FM, Ibadan and Ajayi Crowther FM, Oyo and therefore commiserated with the management of these media houses over the ugly developments. The meeting appreciated the supports extended to Fresh FM, Ibadan and other stakeholders who rallied round the media houses during the fire phenomenal.
The meeting discussed extensively on the welfare of staff at the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo-state (BCOS), vis-a-vis the conversion of freelancers to contract staff. The meeting showed enthusiasm on the salary increment which followed the development. The union commended Oyo State Government for the improved subventions and equally urged government to improve on other areas for optimal performances of staffers.
The congress, before its adjournment, appreciated NUJ President , Alhassan Yahya on the appointment of the vice-chairman of Oyo State Council, Seye Ojo as a member of National Trustee of our great Union. The union posited that Seye Ojo will carry out his task efficiently and effectively.
The congress ratified the nomination of a 5-man screening/Credentials Committee for the forthcoming NUJ, Oyo State Council election slated for 2025 and the Press Week Committee. Members of the 5-man screening/Credentials Committee have Ismail Fasasi (NUJIC) as the chairman, while Afolakemi Akanbi is the secretary. Other members are Oluwakayode Banjo (FRCN), Segun Oyedokun (NFTV) and Ismail Ogundeji (Oke-Ogun NUJ).
For the Press Week Committee, Kemi Olaitan (Correspondents’ Chapel) is the chairman, Com. Omolola Alamu (FRCN) is the secretary, while Iyabo Adebisi (FRCN), Abiodun Atilola (The State Information Chapel) and Seyifunmi Odunuga of the Federal Information Chapel are members.
