The Management of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, on Thursday said they have so far impacted 45,140 students under the company’s Pearls Quiz since its inception in 2012.
The Chief Executive Officer of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, Roger Brown made the disclosure at the 2020 annual Pearls Quiz Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, in Benin City.
Brown who was represented by Chioma Nwachuku, General Manager External Affairs and Communications Seplat also disclosed that the company has introduced Seplat Teachers Empowerment Program (STEM), to train teachers.
He said the initiative was designed to enhance academic performance and ensure Nigerian youths are well equipped to go into the workplace and be useful to the society.
“So, this program will target the teachers and it is beginning next week; we are taking a 100 teachers for a start, and through the period of six months we will put them through how to teach in a way and manner that will impact the students.

“Let me reel out some of the benefits we have directly impacted in this program. We have impacted 45,140 students since 2012, and over 35 of them are in the universities. And two of them have benefited from our scholarship scheme in the university, while one of them has served the internship program at Seplat”,he said.
He noted that despite the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, 574 schools participated in the quiz competition.
He explained that the quiz competition which commenced in 2012 was targeted at improving educational standards of its host states, Edo and Delta States.
The Seplat boss, commended Edo and Delta states for being a worthy and great partners in the competition.
“It is a course that is very rewarding because we know that If you look at the Sustainable Development Goals, this one addresses number four target which is education.
“We know as a nation, education is one part that play a key role because the impact it has is for economic growth of the country.
“We in Seplat, know the importance of education, we have ran this program for 8 years. In addition to the students, we have also introduced a program called STEM–Seplat Teachers Empowerment Program”,he added.
At the end of the keenly contested competition, St. Michael Academy, Benin City emerged winner of the quiz competition and clinched the star prize of N7million.
The runner up, MC Nell secondary school, Delta State got N3million while the third place school, Gloryland Academy, Igarra received N1million.
St. Michael Academy scored 54 points to defeat his closest opponent, MC Nell secondary school, Delta state who scored 35 points.
