As part of its contribution towards an improved living and educational standards for students at their Alma mater, Federal Government College Warri Old Students Association (FEGOCOWOSA) recently commissioned four projects which the association had executed in the school.
The commissioned projects which include a brand new state-of-the-art information, communications and technology (ICT) centre, a brand new 500KVA generator, the expanded college infirmary (sick bay) and the renovated dining hall were part of events lined up to mark the annual general meeting of the Old Students Association which took place in the school premises.
Akinwunmi Ambode, national president of the association in his address at the event, stated that the focus of his executive was to give back to the school which had given them so much.
“My vision was to do everything we could to make Federal Government College Warri remain great, to inspire the next generation of Federal Government College Warri Students to be the best they can be; to inspire them to aspire for greatness,” he said.
Ambode, a former accountant general and permanent secretary in the Lagos State Ministry of Finance, stated that “education is the most potent weapon against poverty,” adding that “if the youths have good education, they will be better placed to overcome the challenges ahead.”
He however urged the Federal Government to protect the students and youths who are the future of the nation by putting an end to the mindless killing of students in parts of the country by insurgents. He also reminded the government to do everything possible to rescue the young girls who were abducted in Yobe.
