Olanipekun to receive lifetime law achievement award
Wole Olanipekun, SAN, eminent jurist, has been selected to receive the Law Digest Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the profession.
The award will be presented to him at the Law Digest Africa Awards dinner, which will take place on November 4 at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. One of the most coveted awards in the industry, Law Digest Africa Awards gives recognition to African lawyers and is supported by various African Bar Associations and Law Societies.
With a glittering career spanning more than 40 years, Olanipekun’s career has seen him at various times called upon to serve the profession and the wider community in various capacities.
He has served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the old Ondo State, President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) & serving as a member of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC), Council of Legal Education, Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee, General Council of the Bar, Ondo State Judicial Service Commission, Governing Council, Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, amongst others to serving as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Ibadan.
He became a member of the Body of Benchers in 1992, and was made a Life Bencher in 2004. He is also a life member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is presently the Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Ibadan Business School, Ibadan and the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the 11-year old Anglican University – Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
In 1996, he instituted the Wole Olanipekun Scholarship Scheme, with the mission and vision of assisting by way of scholarship awards to brilliant and indigent students. The scheme, which was initially restricted to secondary school students, has now been extended to cover university under-graduates, as well as students of the Nigerian Law School.
As at today, over 250 students have benefited from the scheme, and some of them are now proud lawyers, doctors, pharmacists, educationists, engineers and architects, among others.
In March 2014, he built and donated to the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikere-Ekiti Branch, a 350-capacity Bar Centre. In addition, he has, for the past three years been paying the annual practising fees of the over 60 lawyers who are members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikere branch.
