A brief history
Ochanya Ogbanje was a 13 years old girl who died seven years ago.
Ochanya was 5 years old when she went to live at her aunty Felicia Ogbuja and uncle Andrew Ogbuja in Benue state so she could have access to education, reports confirmed.
Unfortunately Ochanya became a rape victim while living with her relatives. She was sexually abused by her uncle and his son for several years until she died of Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) in October 17, 2018.
While the alleged culprits walked freely, Nigerians have taken to their social media handles with the hashtag #JusticeForOchanya to demand justice.

Lessons to parents
Never keep silent: Parents should train children to never be silent when they are abused. Always encourage the children to speak up.
Make them your friends: parents must create a cordial relationship with their children so they can see parents as their friends and confidants; that’s way, they can tell anything without fear and reservations.
Train your male children: As you train your female children, also train your male children. Teach them that self control is an important virtue in life.
Protect your children: With the present stage of our economy, yes we are running helter skelter trying to make end means, but create time for your children at all cost.
Lastly, parents should be aware that pedophiles could be anyone; they could be neighbours, relatives, classmates, husbands or sons.
