Nurudeen Tahil went on his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assignment last month in Taraba State with one hand, having lost the other in an accident in the past. Now he has no hand. On the day his batch completed the orientation course and were on their way to their places of primary assignment, he and 16 others were involved in an auto accident in which he lost the remaining hand.
Nurudeen, a graduate in Islamic Studies from Yusuf Maitama Sule Northwest University, Kano, will however, soon get artificial limbs.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has promised to procure artificial limbs from the Republic of Saudi Arabia for youth Corps members who were involved in an accident in Taraba.
The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, made this known during a visit to the victims of the accident involving youth service members posted Sardauna Local government area of Taraba.
BusinessDay reports that the accident also claimed the life of one Corps member, while others were wounded with various degrees of injuries, including one with a fracture in the head.
The victims are members of Batch B who had just completed their orientation and were posted to Sardauna Local Government Area of the Taraba.
The affected corps members are presently receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo.
Ibrahim, who was conducted round all medical wards where the victims were receiving treatment by Inusa Wiza and State Coordinator of the scheme, Florence Yaakugh, said the scheme would take care of all the medical bills of the affected corps members.
According to him, the welfare of the victims who were presently suffering from various degrees of injuries inflicted on them ranging from broken arms and legs , broken heads as well as amputation or arms will be taken care of by scheme.
“I want to assure you of the readiness of the service to give you all the needed support that will enable you achieve your ambitions.
” It is a common fact that you (victims) are on national assignment and the predicaments you are presently going through will not be in vain as the service will leave no stone unturned to put much smiles on your faces,’ Ibrahim said.
On her part the state coordinator of the NYSC lauded the efforts of the state government and that of the director general.
Yaakugh, while briefing the director general said that Governor Darius Ishaku had shown a lot of concern for the incidence.
According to her, His Ex had immediately ordered all involved in the accident to be treated and the bill be sent to the state for payment.
Wiza the medical director FMC Jalingo, said that him and his team had been working round the clock to revive the victims.
He called on the Federal government to go extra legitimate miles to rehabilitate, counsel and support the amputee in terms of finance and accommodation.
The CMD who noted that the amputee “is very depressed and mentally down, believed that rehabilitating him on the challenges of the situation he found himself, would go along way to assist him.
