The National Universities Commission has phased out mass communication degree in its old form and unbundled it into seven sub degrees.
Abubakar Rasheed, NUC’s executive secretary made this known in a chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday. But this has not been officially communicated to universities as of 4:27 pm, on Thursday.

The seven new programmes or departments, to be domiciled in a Faculty, School, College of Communication and Media Studies are Journalism & Media Studies, Public Relations, Advertising, Broadcasting, Film & Multi-Media Studies, Development Communication Studies, Information & Media Studies.
“There are several stages in the implementation of a new policy. This is the awareness stage. It has to be communicated to the universities. The universities will run it through their various senates and the owners of the universities will have to agree and create a budget for it,” Rotimi William Olatunji, Dean School of Media Studies, Lagos State University told BusinessDay.
