The Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Chairmen of the Northern States Traditional Rulers Council concluded a high-level joint meeting on Saturday at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna, where they focused primarily on addressing security challenges facing the region.
The meeting, which brought together governors from all 19 northern states and the chairmen of their respective traditional councils, emphasised the importance of nonpartisan cooperation in tackling developmental challenges across northern Nigeria.
In a communiqué signed by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the northern leaders commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “sustained commitment to addressing security challenges and infrastructural deficits in Northern Nigeria.”

The Forum announced several key resolutions aimed at enhancing security across the region, including plans to coordinate with the Nigerian Governors Forum to increase support for federal security agencies and strengthen local security initiatives.
Among the most significant decisions was the establishment of interstate platforms to coordinate surveillance along shared borders.
The northern governors also reaffirmed their support for state police forces and called on the National Assembly to “expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework” necessary to implement this reform.
The Forum scheduled their next meeting for 30th August 2025.
