Amid reports of the release of Dapchi schoolgirls in the early hours of Wednesday, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu, has said he could not confirm the development yet.
Sunmonu, who spoke in a telephone conversation with Business Day, said he was on his way to Dapchi town, to get update on the matter.
He however, said whatever information he gathered from the town, will be transmitted to the Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed, for dissemination.
” I am not confident enough to talk to you now. Confirmation will come from the federal ministry of information.
“Whatever information I have, i will send it to him first. However, I am heading towards Dapchi now”, Sunmonu said.
It will be recalled that suspected elements of Boko Haram had, on Monday 19 February, abducted a total of 110 students from Government Girls’ Science and Technical School, Dapchi, Yobe State.
Unlike the Chibok girls’ abduction on April 14, 2014, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction.
