The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has officially announced that all complaints related to SIM swap, new SIM registration, SIM migration, and related issues should now be directed to telecommunications service providers, following the successful migration of telcos to its upgraded NIN verification platform, NINAuth.
The Commission, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the move is part of its broader efforts to streamline identity verification services and enhance data security for Nigerians. With the migration now complete, telcos are expected to provide uninterrupted NIN verification services through the NINAuth platform, without requiring users to escalate service issues to NIMC.

“The Commission wishes to assure the general public that the Verification and Authentication Service platforms are functional and accessible to all. However, any issue being experienced by NIN holders on new SIM registration, SIM swap, SIM migration, welcome back SIM, and others should be directed to the telcos for immediate resolution,” the statement read.
The new NINAuth platform was developed and deployed by NIMC as a more secure and efficient identity verification gateway for digital services, particularly within the telecom sector.
According to the Commission, the system is designed to give Nigerians greater control over their identity data, strengthen data privacy, and ensure seamless verification in real time.
Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, Engr. Lanre Yusuf, confirmed that all major telecom operators have been successfully migrated to the NINAuth platform and are now actively using it to verify subscribers’ National Identification Numbers (NINs).
“This achievement is a result of NIMC’s painstaking efforts to put the power to control NIN data in the hands of the holders. The NINAuth platform enhances data protection, gives control of personal data to the owners, offers seamless verification, and provides convenient sign-on access to services,” Yusuf stated.

The Commission emphasised that while it remains responsible for maintaining and securing Nigeria’s national identity database, service delivery related to SIM registration and reactivation lies within the operational domain of the telecom operators.
The NINAuth migration is also seen as a boost to Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure (DPI) ambitions, providing the necessary backbone for secure identity management across multiple sectors, including banking, insurance, social protection, and education.
With this update, subscribers experiencing issues during SIM onboarding or reactivation are advised to reach out directly to their network providers for quicker resolution, while NIMC continues to manage backend verifications and platform stability.
