Taiwo Olusesi, the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), has disclosed that its maiden chess tournament will promote inclusivity and nurture key life skills in children.
“The tournament is designed to promote inclusivity and nurture key life skills such as strategic thinking, discipline, and sportsmanship through the game of chess,” Olusesi said, while speaking on the essence of the competition.
The tournament is billed for Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Management House, Lagos. She disclosed that the chess tournament promises an inspiring blend of competition, learning, and fun for future leaders.

According to her, the tournament offers a unique platform for young learners to challenge themselves intellectually, interact with peers from other schools, and gain exposure to a competitive yet supportive environment.
She disclosed that the maiden chess tournament organised in collaboration with Dynamic Chess Ville is a landmark tournament for young chess talents from both primary and secondary schools across Lagos.
Dynamic Chess Ville is a Chess association, and Chess in the Slums Foundation will provide professional support at the tournament.

The Registrar further revealed that the one-day, closed tournament, which seeks to foster the spirit of healthy competition, empower young minds and celebrate intellectual excellence.
Olusesi also disclosed that trophies, medals, cash and other consolatory prizes will be won at the chess game, while participating schools will receive a certificate of participation.
