Lauritta Onye has handed team Nigeria another gold medal in the athletes event in the women’s shot put f40 on day-four of the Rio Paralympic Games in Brazil.
Her first throw of 7.83m saw her break her world record of 7.72m set at the 2015 IPC world athletics championships in Doha.
Her second throw landed at 7.54m, while she went one centimeter further on her third attempt.
Onye then went on to unleash an astonishing throw of 8.40m on her fourth attempt to secure the gold medal in the event.
Nnamdi Innocent picked up a bronze medal in the 72kg powelifting event bringing the total number of medals for the team to seven.
Nigeria has climbed to the 12th position from its former 16th place on the overall medals table at the games.
