The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed deep concern over Tuesday’s Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, which reportedly targeted senior members of the Hamas leadership.
In a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria, warned that the strike posed serious risks to regional stability and undermined diplomatic efforts to resolve the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The ministry stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of nations and upholding international law, particularly in the use of force across borders.
“This development raises serious questions about regional stability and the prospects for ongoing diplomatic efforts,” the statement read.
Nigeria also acknowledged Qatar’s pivotal role in mediating dialogue in the Middle East and urged all parties involved to show restraint, avoid escalation, and recommit to peaceful negotiations.
The government extended its sympathies to those affected by the incident and reiterated its unwavering support for initiatives that promote de-escalation and lasting peace.
“The Federal Government remains steadfast in its commitment to working alongside members of the international community within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral fora to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond”, the statement noted.
