The joint Action Committee of Non-teaching staff of Nigerian universities has suspended the three month industrial action embarked on over non-payment of Earned Allowance.
Samson Ugwoke, President, Joint Action Committee of the three striking unions, namely: Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) National Association of Academic Technologists(NAAT) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), disclosed this in Abuja.
Ugwoke who confirmed the peaceful resolution of the concerns raised by the unions, directed all members of the three unions to resume on Thursday, 15th March, 2018.
He however warned that the unions “shall not hesitate to resume the strike if government reneges on the agreements reached or delays in any aspects.”
The workers commenced the strike on December 4, 2017.
Recall that the Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education had on 8th March, 2018 who addressed the protesting workers, assured that the crisis will be addressed soon.
The Miniater who was represented by Joel Ojo, Director, Tertiary Education assured that: “the ministry is doing all to ensure that the issues affecting the university system is resolved immediately.
“The ministry is interfacing with the National Assembly and modalities have been put in place to resolve the ongoing strike and make sure normalcy returns to the universities. I want to assure you that the Federal government is committed and I want to plead with you to give us some time,” Ojo said.
