The Nigeria Media Innovation Programme (NAMIP) and the Daily Trust Foundation are organising a two-day Conference in Abuja on July 30 and 31, 2025, to promote media sustainability in Nigeria.
The event, themed “Future-Proofing Nigeria’s Journalism Media – A Sustainability Dynamic,” will gather media entrepreneurs, editors, technologists, policymakers, investors, and other stakeholders to discuss media viability, revenue models, innovations, and the future of independent journalism.
The event aims to encourage knowledge sharing and collaboration among media innovators, donors, investors, researchers, and civic actors while celebrating Nigerian media resilience.
NAMIP, a programme of the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF) funded by the MacArthur Foundation, marks the end of its first phase after three years.
It has supported 28 media organisations in Nigeria to explore new business models and technologies for sustainability. The Daily Trust Foundation, also funded by the MacArthur Foundation, has trained over 1,000 journalists in investigative reporting, with some earning local and international awards.
The Conference will include keynote addresses, research reports, panel discussions, product demonstrations, and workshops. Confirmed speakers include Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.
Theophilus Abbah, Programme Director of Daily Trust Foundation, said, “This conference is a chance for Nigerians in media to learn from global business models and practices. Despite challenges from digitisation, the media business has hope.
“Experts have created strategies to keep it alive, and some will be shared here.”
Deji Adekunle, Program Director of NAMIP, added, “We want to share ideas and tackle sustainability issues for public interest media. Participants should leave inspired and informed about independent media’s future.”
The theme highlights the need to adapt to changing media landscapes and ensure long-term viability. The conference offers a platform to reflect on past innovations and build practical plans for the future.
