The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is set to inaugurate its Safe Tower Project at Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano in order to boost air traffic management services in the country, a statement said on Tuesday.
The statement, issued by the Acting General Manager, Jumoke Adetona, of Public Affairs Department, said the agency had successfully conducted a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) of the installed equipment at the airport in preparation for the inauguration.
It quoted Ibrahim Abdulsalam, NAMA’s Managing Director, as saying that the project would lead to effective and efficient flight planning, availability of Radar Monitoring System for enhanced air traffic situation awareness, among others
“It will also introduce automated data storage for effective billing, availability of meteorological information online and real time as well as vertical wind shear alerting system, among others.
“I t will be recalled that the Safe Tower Project which was conceived since 2006 was aimed at automating air traffic management services at the four major airports in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano.
“ While others have since been commissioned, that of Kano suffered a series of setbacks, leading to the rebuilding of a completely new safe tower for Kano airport,’’ the statement added.
