Motorola has partnered with the GrapheneOS Foundation, a nonprofit focused on advanced mobile security, to strengthen the privacy and resilience of its smartphone software.
The alliance, unveiled this week at Mobile World Congress 2026, will see Motorola and the GrapheneOS Foundation work together on research, software enhancements, and future security innovations for Motorola devices.
GrapheneOS is renowned for its hardened version of Android, designed to minimize common vulnerabilities and enforce robust app sandboxing without compromising the standard Android experience.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Motorola to bring GrapheneOS’s industry-leading privacy and security-focused mobile operating system to their next-generation smartphone,” a GrapheneOS spokesperson said in a statement released by Motorola.

Under the agreement, Motorola will combine its decades of experience in device security, including its ThinkShield protections developed with parent company Lenovo, with the GrapheneOS team’s engineering expertise to advance a new generation of privacy and security technologies. Initial details on specific features and device availability remain limited.
GrapheneOS has been available only on Google Pixel devices to date, where it has built a reputation among privacy-focused users for its hardened architecture and reduced attack surface.
Motorola and GrapheneOS did not disclose which future devices may support the operating system or enhanced security capabilities, but plans for ongoing collaboration were emphasised.

Motorola introduces new enterprise tools, which include Moto Analytics, a platform for real-time device performance insights, and an enhanced Moto Secure feature that strips sensitive metadata from photos, which reinforces its broader push into security-focused solutions for both consumers and businesses.
The announcement marks a notable step for Motorola as it seeks to differentiate its products with deeper security integrations at a time when mobile privacy remains a top concern for users and organisations worldwide.
