The Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, on Monday said that Moscow proposed to hold special talks during the Geneva-II conference which would gather representatives of the U.S., UN and all Syrian sides.
He stressed that Russian diplomats had approached the negotiations process in a highly creative way and they suggested that UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, could contact with Russian, U.S. and Syrian delegation either separately or together.
Meanwhile, a Russia-U.S.-UN meeting is scheduled for Feb.14, with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Gennady Gatilov, to head the Russian delegation, Bogdanov said, adding the U.S. delegation will be led by Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman.
Bogdanov said that Russia and the U.S. would control the negotiations process constantly and devotedly.
The second round of the Geneva II conference resumed at the UN Office at Geneva (UNOG) after a 10-day break, with the first round concluded with no concrete results.
According to UN sources, the new round begins with a meeting between Brahimi and the delegation of the Syrian opposition, which is to be followed by a meeting between Brahimi and the delegation of the Syrian government.
Last week, UNOG spokeswoman, Corinne Momal-Vanian said that the second round was expected to last a whole week.
The UN-backed international conference, dubbed Geneva II, is aimed at ending a three-year-long conflict in Syria.
