Moniepoint Group, a fintech company in Nigeria in commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD), has empowered over 250 female students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) degrees at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with financial literacy skills.
The event, organized by the Tosin Eniolorunda Foundation in partnership with Moniepoint and the Association of Professional Women in Engineering (APWEN) Ile-Ife chapter, aimed to “Accelerate Action” towards gender equality.
Aligned with this year’s IWD theme, the initiative addressed systemic barriers like unequal pay and limited access to education, focusing on empowering women in underrepresented fields. The session equipped students with essential financial skills, fostering their professional aspirations and networking opportunities.

Tosin Eniolorunda, OAU alum and Group CEO of Moniepoint Inc, highlighted the urgency of bridging Nigeria’s financial literacy gap, citing Central Bank of Nigeria data indicating only 38 percent adult literacy.
“Financial inclusion represents a fundamental pillar of economic development, ensuring that everyone can access affordable formal financial services,” he stated. “For young ladies pursuing STEM careers, financial literacy empowers them to prudently navigate aspects of their education, professional development, and entrepreneurial endeavors.”
The event featured prominent OAU figures, including Dean of the Faculty of Technology, Lasisi Umoru, and APWEN Coordinator Ile-Ife, Bello Sururah. Omotayo Aregbesola delivered an inspiring lecture on “Now and Beyond: Excelling as females in STEM,” while Moniepoint Inc’s Learning and Development Specialist, Yomi Ojute, led a discourse on financial literacy strategies.
