Miva Open University has announced the official opening of its Lagos Study Centre as part of its efforts to expand access to education in Nigeria.
Located at 376 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba, Lagos, the new centre provides a space for students to learn, collaborate, and build connections while pursuing their academic goals, the university said.
“We are excited to launch the Lagos Study Centre as part of Miva’s ongoing commitment to transforming education in Nigeria. This centre is a testament to our belief that learning should be flexible, accessible, and supported by a community that encourages growth. The opening of this centre will provide students with the resources they need to excel academically, while also supporting their personal and professional development,” said Mr Sim Shagaya, Chancellor of Miva Open University.
The centre is equipped with constant electricity, free Wi-Fi, and an E-Library. It also offers study rooms and lounges for individual or group study sessions. Miva said the facility includes a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centre with over 197 computers, allowing students to take examinations conveniently.
“Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and the Lagos Study Centre has been designed with their needs in mind. From modern study rooms to state-of-the-art computer facilities, we are providing a space that is not only conducive to learning but also supports their well-being. We are proud to open this centre and look forward to seeing our students thrive in it,” said Mr Iheanyi Akwitti, Registrar of Miva Open University.
An on-site Admissions Office will assist prospective students with enquiries about the application process. The university also emphasised that student life is a key focus. To this end, the centre includes a gym, an on-site cafeteria, and a rooftop lounge overlooking the Lagos skyline.
Miva stated that the Lagos Study Centre is the first of several planned centres across Nigeria, aimed at supporting more students with access to learning spaces and resources.
To celebrate the launch, Miva has scheduled several activities:
Grand Opening Day – 29 April 2025
The opening day features a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, a tour of the facility, and the launch of Miva’s new MIND learning tool, designed to support the learning experience.
Career Day and Postgraduate Masterclass – 30 April 2025
A Career Day will be held to provide free career consultations and development sessions. An admissions fair will take place for prospective students, and a Postgraduate Masterclass will guide students on academic and career progression. Students who visit the centre on this day will be offered a 5% discount on full-year tuition fees.
Community and Engagement Day – 2 May 2025
The week will conclude with networking sessions, games, and a meet and greet with faculty and partners to foster stronger community ties.
Miva Open University invited students, prospective students, faculty members, and partners to attend the events and explore the new centre.
“The journey has just begun,” the university said.
