As part of the move geared at deepening the implementation of the new gas policy in the country, Timipre Sylva, minister of State for Petroleum Resources, has commissioned two multi-billion Naira LNG plants, in the commercial city of Kano.
The plants which are being supplied natural gas by Greenville Natural Gas Company Limited are to generate a total of 10 megawatts of electricity to companies in the two industrial estates in the state.
Speaking, while commissioning the plants which are sited in Mamuda Agro & Allied Nigeria Limited, and Aspira Nigeria Limited, the minister described the flag off of the projects, as a revolutionary step towards actualizing the Federal Government Gas Policy.
Sylva disclosed that the implementation of the gas policy was designed primarily to drive the resuscitation of Industrial development across the country.
He noted that the two newly commissioned gas plants are expected to translate to improved activity in the two companies.

“I am glad to be here today to commission these new gas plants conceived as a result of the support they received from the government.
“Under the new gas policy, we have government has made it easy for companies to set up gas plants for the purpose of powering their operations.
“We liberialised the process of obtaining licence, as well as other forms of support for them to leverage on the gas policy” he stated.
The minister called on other companies to key into the government’s gas programme, as it is cheaper to operate on gas than petroleum.
Commenting on the new gas plants, in a statement made available to BusinessDay on the sidelines of the commissioning, the management of Greenville Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited, expressed its commitment to boost gas supply to all parts of the country.
In the statement which was circulated by Folusho Adeyemi, the manager in charge of brand and marketing, the company hinted that it intended to upping its fleets of tankers delivering LNG from 200 to 300.
The statement added that the move was to ensure a wider consumption of the commodity, noting that the company had established gas refueling stations in strategic locations, namely, Koton Karfe, in Kogi State, Sagamu in Ogun State, Ikpoba, in Edo State and Kakau in Kaduna State.
Mamuda Agro & Allied Products Nigeria Limited is a company situated in Kano State that is into manufacturing of polypropylene bags for packaging of cement and agriculture products which was established in 1996.
“The cryogenic storage tank capacity at Mamuda is 110 M3 with two vertical installed”, the statement explained.
