The Nigerian Military has denied that 365 soldiers resigned due to loss of interest in the service, but said they were part of the routine disengagement of soldiers and officers after 12 or 18 years of call-up service.
John Enenche, coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DMO), said this on Thursday at a news conference in Abuja.
Enenche said all soldiers who have completed their call-up service are allowed to go, or offered re-engagement of 35 years.
“Every year, every quater, we compile names and the affected officers are notified. As we recruit we disengage so as not to choke the establishment. It is a routine excersise and it will not stop. They said it’s loss of interest, that’s a lie,” he said.
Enenche earlier disclosed that the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole has destroyed a Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs’) Camp and killed several of their fighters in massive air strikes executed at Ngwuri Gana along the Gulumba Gana – Kumshe axis in the Northern part of Borno State.
Enenche said aerial surveillance missions confirmed the heavy presence of a large number of BHTs in the settlement, some of whom were seen slinging their rifles.
“The Air Task Force therefore launched coordinated attacks on the various targets within the settlement, employing an enhanced force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships.
“The attack aircraft took turns in engaging the designated locations within the settlement, scoring devastating hits which led to the destruction of several structures, including the Communication Centres, as well as the neutralisation of several terrorists,” he said.
