Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudke has distributed 350 bags of NPK 20-10-10 fertilizers to farmers drawn from adopted communities of three Agricultural zones of Abia $tate as part of its corporate social responsibility and empowerment policy.
Maduebibisi Ofo-Iwe, professor and vice-chancellor of the University, represented by Uchechi Apu, professor and director, MOUAU Extension Centre (MEC), coordinated the distribution of the items few days ago in the University.
Addressing the recipients, Iwe said that the distribution formed part of the University’s sustained intervention programme aimed at supporting rural farmers with essential inputs at the onset of the planting season.
He noted that the exercise marked the third phase of distribution of agricultural input under his administration, reflecting a deliberate policy to strengthen the University’s community engagement with critical stakeholders.
Iwe stated that the timely distribution of the fertilizer and improved seed varieties was expected to boost crop performance significantly during the current planting season.
He assured the farmers that the University would continue to provide technical support, training, and extension services to complement the inputs distributed.
The benefiting farmers expressed deep appreciation to the University for what they described as consistent and impactful support.

commended the Vice-Chancellor and the University for sustaining the intervention for throughout the lifespan of his administration, noting that the support has become a dependable source of encouragement to local farmers.
