Babajide Ojo, Nigeria’s promising scientist is an incoming tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition in the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Babajide began his higher education at Ekiti State University in Southwest Nigeria, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry in 2011.
He later moved to the United States, where he pursued further studies at Oklahoma State University. There, he obtained a master’s degree in Nutrition Sciences in 2015, followed by a PhD in the same field.
Brilliant Jide as he is fondly called becomes a professor at the University of Alabama five years after earning PhD degree.
Commenting on his remarkable feat on LinkedIn, Babajide said, “I am thrilled to share that I have accepted a tenure-track assistant professor position in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, in the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The scientist with over a decade of experience in studying the impact of nutrition on intestinal biology in health and disease has opened The Jide-Ojo Laboratory and is recruiting at all levels.
“The Jide-Ojo Lab opens in January 2025 and I will recruit at all levels!!! Together, we will use patient-derived organoids and animal models to elucidate how environmental exposures may contribute to the pathogenesis of pediatric digestive diseases, particularly Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, to prevent disease and enhance patient-centered management strategies.

Babjide holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry, Ekiti State University, 2011, MS, PhD in Nutritional Sciences, Oklahoma State University, 2019, and a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, in Epithelial Biology, Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, 2021.
