Emmanuella Adeyemo, a former student of Our God Reigns Crystal School, Oju-Ore in Ogun State was adjudged as the best 2024 NECO June/July Senior School Examination (SSCE) in Nigeria, and proud winner of Learn Africa’s N1 million price money.
The 17-year-old genius, who is the first born of her parents, Adeyemo Olubayo and Adeyemo Kehinde, both pastors, started her academic journey at the EFG Springfield Academy, a Nursery and Primary School in Ota, Ogun State.
Her educational trajectory took her to Our God Reigns Crystal School Ota, Ogun State for high school education before she gained admission into Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to study pharmacy.
The Ayedire Local Government of Osun State-born mastermind, who is also a playwriter and a singer, with many stories yet to be published, and is hopeful of getting sponsors to publish her stories.
Speaking about her success story at 2024 NECO and her study culture while in secondary school, Adedamola, said, “While in school, I will wake up early to observe my devotion, then, take my breakfast by 8:00 am, and start reading by 9:00 am till 2:00 pm, when I go for my lunch.
“I start reading again from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm, before I retire to the hostel. In the hostel, I will rest from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and commence study again till 2:00 am,” she said.
Moreover, she said that her school has the tradition of accommodating SS3 students in the hostel for proper monitoring and to minimise distraction.
“This arrangement helped me to stay focused and to be able to read day and night,” she added.
The amiable 200-level student of Pharmacy at OAU explained that her remarkable success at the 2024 NECO was not by accident as she had set her eyes on achieving triple best student performance in WASSCE and JAMB.
Besides, she said her parents had inculcated the spirit of excellence in her.
“My goal then, was to be top in JAMB, WAEC and NECO, but the other two were not possible. But I’m grateful that God helped me in my NECO examination.
“My parents have always told me that in everything I do, that I can be the top, so, I had it in mind to be able to make my parents and my school proud,” she said.
Though she is the first born of her parents, the young pharmacist said her parents decided not to buy phone for her while in secondary school until she gained admission to the university which I strictly adhere to.
Consequent to the above, she said she was never distracted by phone in her quest for academic excellence.
On the issues of peer pressure in school, Adedamola said, “Peer pressure was no issue to me because whenever I was going through anything, I would share with my parents and guardian, and I also pray more often.
“The social media didn’t distract me, because I did not have a phone until after my SS3,” she noted.
Emmanuella told BusinessDay that her role model in life is Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, whose achievements in Mathematics where he made first class in Mathematics at both MSc and Ph.D levels.
Following the footsteps of Daddy G.O, as he is popularly called, Emmanuella scored A1 in nine subjects she sat at NECO in 2024 which are English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science, Economics and Book Keeping.
She aspires to own a pharmaceutical firm, and contribute in the quest to eradicate cancer in the next five years.
“I envision myself as the MD/CEO of my dream Pharmaceutical Company where we produce safe, high quality and affordable drugs that are accessible to all parts of the world. I would also love to research new drugs that can conquer cancer and other terminal diseases.
“Besides, I will like to research on new drugs that can conquer cancer and other terminal diseases,” she emphasised.
