As a follow-up to his mediation between Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) and the Federal Government, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, is set to meet with the leadership of the Union on Monday.
A statement by the Office of the Senate President on Sunday, revealed that the meeting will hold in Saraki’s office at 3pm.
It would be recalled that last week, Saraki began mediating in the strike action that has crippled Nigeria’s healthcare facilities for the past 40 days.
To this end, Saraki who is also a medical doctor, met with JOHESU officials as well as the Ministers in charge of the Labour and Health Ministries, Chris Ngige and Issac Adewole respectively.
On April 17, 2018, JOHESU, a body of all other health workers except doctors, commenced nationwide indefinite strike, calling on government to increase their pay and improve their members’ working conditions among other demands.
The statement quoted Saraki as saying that: “If it is true that government has improved on its offers to JOHESU, it will be desirable for the health workers to also stretch out a hand of fellowship — in good faith — to meet the government mid-way and accept the offer, so that we can finally resolve this matter and have a win-win situation for the union, the government and the Nigerian people who make use of our public health institutions”.
