As part of measures to deepen Federal Government campaign that requests Nigerians to buy goods manufactured locally, investors under the Ogun State chapter of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have resolved to have inscription of ‘Made in Ogun State’ on all the goods produced in the state.
This move, also complies with usual directive given to investors by Ogun State government through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry under the new policy placed on investment and commerce, which intends to further propagate Federal Government’s campaign on ‘Made in Nigeria Goods and Buy Naija Goods’ with a view to showcasing to the world, all the goods that are being manufactured in the state.
Speaking shortly after the 10th quarterly meeting of MAN organised at the instance of Bimbo Ashiru, commissioner for commerce and industry, Adewale Adegbite, Ogun State chairman of MAN, disclosed that producers of goods in the state and even outside the state were ready to inscribe not only Made in Nigeria on all the goods produced, but also an inscription of the state where such goods were manufactured on them.
Adegbite explained that the inscription of Made in Ogun State on the goods manufactured in the State in addition to that of ‘Made in Nigeria’ would surely testify to that fact that Ogun State has the largest number of manufacturing industries in the comity of Nigerian states, and therefore requires special attention in terms of infrastructure, interventions and federal allocation that would greatly benefit all residents and investors.
The MAN chairman, who declared that members of MAN in the State are more than ready to support all levels of government to provide infrastructure such as roads, rail, power, among other infrastructure that would ease production of goods and services as well as haulage of goods and raw materials in and outside the state, said, ”our members are more than happy to ensure we do place the state where the goods are manufactured, it is a welcome development.”
Responding, Ashiru, who chaired the quarterly meeting, held at the instance of Governor Ibikunle Amosun, said, ”some manufacturers are already putting Made in Ogun State on their goods, some have sent their goods to me, and I was happy when I saw Made in Agbara, Ogun State.
“It is very important. They are in Ogun State, they must ensure that they put Made in Ogun State on goods, you cannot be producing in Ogun State and then put in your headquarters Address in Lagos. This is where you make all the money, and I want to tell you that most of the flagship industries are in Ogun State, and we must be proud about that.”
Speaking on government’s effort to provide needed infrastructure in all the industrial hubs in the State, Ashiru explained that government had just begun a N23 billion concrete road and overhead bridge in Atan-Igbesa-Agbara axis of the state with a view to replicating the gesture in all the industrial areas, calling on investors to support government in its effort to reconstruct roads leading to industrial areas by contributing 40 percent inputs.
