Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million.
The 26-year-old has signed a contract until June 2030, with the option of an additional year, after United activated the release clause in his Wolves contract earlier this month. The transfer was subject to a medical examination and visa, both of which are now completed.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha said.
“Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team, and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.”
Cunha scored 31 goals in 76 appearances for Wolves after arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2023. He netted 17 times last season alone, earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award.
United’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised the signing.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window. He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”
Cunha becomes Ruben Amorim’s first signing as United look to bounce back from a disappointing season and a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham. His addition is expected to strengthen a forward line that struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.
The Brazilian also played a key role in helping his country qualify for the 2026 World Cup, providing the assist for Vinicius Junior’s winner in a 1-0 victory over Paraguay on Tuesday.
