Ruben Amorim has reiterated his desire to keep Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
The 30-year-old midfield maestro, who has been an important player for the Red Devils since his 2020 move from Sporting Lisbon, continues to attract suitors following another standout performance, scoring twice in United’s 3-0 Europa League semi-final first-leg win against Athletic Bilbao last Thursday.
In the build-up to the second leg at Old Trafford, rumours have swirled of Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal preparing a lucrative offer for the Portuguese international.

Amorim, however, remained firm in his stance, echoing comments he made in March when Fernandes was linked with a move to Real Madrid.
“I think it is easy to understand (his importance); not just because of the numbers but the way he plays and the importance that he has had during his five years here,” Amorim said.
“He is a top player; we need top players. He is a leader; he’s the captain, so he’s really important.
“It’s normal that a lot of clubs want a player like Bruno, like (Alejandro) Garnacho, like others. But we want to keep the best players, and Bruno is clearly one of the top players in the world. So our idea didn’t change. We want Bruno here.”
Amorim’s resolute message reflects United’s intent to retain the heartbeat of their squad, especially as interest intensifies from cash-rich clubs overseas.
