Lagos-based travel CEO earns international recognition for advocacy work connecting sustainable tourism to Africa’s development goals
Ayomide Babashola, CEO and Lead Travel Consultant of Luminous Voyage and Tours Limited, has been nominated in the Sustainable Business Category at the prestigious 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Festival—a three-day high-level forum held under the patronage of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.
The nomination recognizes Mrs. Babashola’s pioneering work at the intersection of sustainable tourism and continental integration. For years, she has championed advocacy of Intra-Africa travel as a means for advancing the continent’s economy through cultural export and job creation.
The Global EntrepreneurshipAyomide Babashola, CEO and Lead Travel Consultant of Luminous Voyage and Tours Limited, has been nominated in the Sustainable Business Category Festival, organized to mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, brings together global business leaders, policymakers, investors, and innovators dedicated to accelerating progress toward the UN SDGs. This nomination reflects a broader recognition that women entrepreneurs are increasingly central to Africa’s innovation and industrial transformation.
“I am deeply honored to stand among global changemakers at this festival,” Mrs. Babashola continued. “But more than personal recognition, this nomination is a spotlight on an urgent issue. If we want sustainable economic growth in Africa, we must make it possible for Africans to move freely, invest locally, and experience the richness of our own continent. That’s not just good for tourism—it’s essential for our collective prosperity.”
Sustainability That Sustains People, Not Just Principles
Mrs. Babashola’s nomination recognizes her holistic approach to sustainable travel—one that understands sustainability isn’t just environmental but economical, cultural and about livelihoods.
“When flight connectivity is poor and policies shut out African travelers from exploring Africa, tour guides across the continent lose income. The people who share indigenous knowledge lose opportunities. Hospitality workers suffer,” Mrs. Babashola explains. “Sustaining African travel means sustaining African lives. Without accessible policies, tourism dies—and with it, the jobs and cultural exchanges that make us whole.”
Through Luminous Voyage and Tours Limited, founded in 2020, Mrs. Babashola has worked to provide accessible, meaningful travel experiences for clients in and beyond Africa. Luminous Voyage and Tours Limited showcases real-world sustainability in action, prioritizing community-based tourism that protects natural reserves, generates local employment and preserves African heritage through authentic traveler experiences.
Her nomination reflects a critical shift: the recognition that women entrepreneurs are no longer on the periphery of Africa’s development story. They are leading it.
“This nomination goes beyond celebrating a business,” Mrs. Babashola shared. “It’s about acknowledging that sustainable business models must address real barriers our people face. It’s about recognizing that travel isn’t frivolous—it’s economic empowerment, cultural exchange, and nation-building rolled into one.”
As an IATA-certified travel consultant, award-winning industry leader, and active Rotary Club member, Mrs. Babashola’s work extends beyond commerce into community impact. Her recent recognition as one of the Top 100 CEOs to Watch in Nigeria for 2025 by EOM x Silverbird Network underscored her people-first leadership style and commitment to meaningful change.
Luminous Voyage and Tours Limited is a Lagos-based travel consultancy specializing in bespoke travel experiences for corporate, luxury, and budget-conscious travelers. As a member of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA) and the Nigerian Association of Tour Operators (NATOP), the company is a trusted partner for authentic, value-driven journeys across Africa and beyond.
With each milestone, Ayomide Babashola continues to strengthen her reputation as a bold, innovative, and socially conscious leader whose work reaches far beyond the office. Her advocacy for a more connected, prosperous Africa is only beginning.
