The management of Lufthansa has assured that in the next few years, young entrepreneurs who are self-independent would take charge of developments in Nigeria.
The airline also said that it would continue to support entrepreneurship ideas in the country and other parts of the world, stressing that through this, the search for white collars job would reduce.
Speaking at the weeklong event tagged: ‘Impact Week’ at the University of Lagos (NUILAG), over the weekend, Claus Becker, managing director, Sub-Sahara Africa, Lufthansa Group, said that the airline decided to organise the event in Lagos for the first time in the country in order to impact positively on the society especially the younger generations.
According to him, Lagos was the third city on the continent after Rwanda and Kenya that the airline would be organising such event, stressing that the six days spent with the participants were eventful.
Becker specifically expressed delight with the entire presentations by the 22 participants who used technology to develop new ideas, which would make them self-reliant and improve their financial status.
He explained that Nigeria so far had proved to be the best among the three countries the airline has had the programme, assuring that with more encouragements, young Nigerians would continue to make impact in their chosen careers.
He said: “We are a big airline group and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for us is a main topic that has been emphasised in our company. We are thinking of something we could do here in Nigeria that would have an impact on the society and instead of doing the usual help supports, I asked my staff about what to do.
“However, today, I’m really impressed with what we have found. I’m impressed with all the presentations today; the motivation, enthusiasm and I’m so positive about what has come out today. I’m deeply impressed and it goes on to confirm that there is future and entrepreneurs in the country.
Also speaking at the event, Jens Unger, Culture and Leadership, Lufthansa, said that the airline would return to Kenya for the third time for the next Impact Week programme.
Rahamon Bello, the Vice Chancellor, UNILAG, in an interview with journalists, assured that the top three participants would be encouraged by the school to further develop the ideas and make meaningful contributions to the society at large.
Bello stressed that with such programmes, graduates would be self-thinking and impact more on the society, adding that a lot of businesses would come out from all the presentations by the participants.
“If you look at the issue of transport within the city, waste handling and others, those are things that are real to help our cities, Nigeria and the communities and when these things develop into real business, they will not only help the city, it will also help the concept and the people that are in it to make money for themselves as well.
