The film topped the chart in its third week, outperforming the Hollywood newcomer Scream 7, which opened in second place with N22 million. According to data from Nigerian Box Office tracking, Love and New Notes brought its cumulative earnings to N246.9 million.
The production, starring Egbuson and directed by Kayode Kasum, opened strongly around Valentine’s Day with over N106 million in its first weekend, establishing it as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026 at that point. It held the number one position for three consecutive weeks, showing sustained audience interest in local romantic content post-holiday season.
Scream 7, the latest entry in the long-running horror franchise, opened at N22 million, placing it ahead of recent international releases in the market.
Other notable performances included Behind The Scenes by Funke Akindele, which added N19.9 million in its 12th week to reach a cumulative total of N2.72 billion. ‘Crime 101’ had N18.3 million while Oversabi Aunty followed with N10.3 million, pushing the Toyin Abrahams 11-week film to N1.16 billion cumulative.
New releases and holdovers filled the rest of the top rankings.‘Goat’, the highly critically acclaimed animation film, grossed N9.6 million, taking its cumulative gross to N36.8 million after three weeks, while Wuthering Heights, with the same number of weeks, grossed N5.8 million, adding to its N43.8 million total gross.
‘Mothers of Chibok’ documentary by Emmy-winning filmmaker Joel ‘Kachi’ Benson, and executive produced by Joke Silva, entered at number eight with N5.2 million, reflecting modest interest in films addressing social issues. Shelter (N5.1 million) and ‘Alive Till Dawn’ (N2.2 million) made the final two on the top 10 for the 27th Feb – 1st March weekend gross.
The weekend results highlight the strength of Nollywood titles in retaining audiences weeks after release, particularly in genres like romance that connect with local viewers. Overall, the chart shows a mix of local films driving the majority of ticket sales, with Hollywood entries securing positions but not overtaking established domestic hits.
